Ever thought about the ethics of ordering online versus shopping locally? No? Well, my friend, it’s time to start. Our local print shop takes a closer look into the meaning of supporting local as well as the overall benefits it reaps on the community. I mean, think about it. Sure, shopping online is the easier option. Ordering that new air fryer while sitting on your couch, bundled up, while eating an entire box of Thin Mints is obviously less work. One-click ordering was designed to promote your questionable shopping habits. One-click ordering, though, will be the death of us all… if not just our bank accounts. Here’s what you need to do. Get up, put some clothes on, step outside and take a breath of fresh air. Here are six reasons you should get in that car and drive downtown to pick up what you need.

Chalkboard Sign That Says Thank You For Shopping Local

1. Support A Familiar Face

You’re supporting someone just like you. Well, maybe not just like you… but pretty damn close. Think about it. By shopping local, you could be helping a neighbor, a friend, their high school-aged son who finally logged out of Call of Duty and left the basement to drive to work. You’re helping to put food on the table for families, buying Christmas presents, maybe a new winter coat for little Suzy. Go, you!

2.  Stimulate The Local Economy

You’re stimulating your local economy and keeping money in the community when you shop local. Not only that, you’re providing jobs for people you know. People in your community. People who wake up and put their pants on one leg at a time, just like everyone else. Essentially, you’re plucking dollar bills out of some fancy-ass billionaire’s wallet. Bet that feels good.

3.  Support Local School’s

You’re supporting your community’s schools. Local stores support their community by donating to charitable causes along with fundraisers. Also, did you know the property taxes paid by local businesses support the school system? Add that to your list, champ.

4.  Give Back To The Environment

You’re helping the environment. You read that right. You’re supporting the environment without getting all Greta Thunberg on people. Local goods mean lowering fuel emissions, fewer transportation costs, less packaging, and probably fewer pictures of turtles you’ll see on your niece’s Facebook page with straws jammed up their noses.

5.  Receive Personalized Customer Service

You are essential to small, local businesses. In this case, you actually matter to these people. You’re a face, not just an order number and a package dropped off by someone who knocks on your door and scares the crap out of you while you’re sipping your coffee. Small businesses not only provide personalized customer service but with attention to detail that can’t be matched. They care about you. How sweet! You should send them a thank you card or something, which by the way our local print shop can help with that.

6.  Shop Local To Make A Difference

Let’s face it, It just feels better when you shop local. The most compelling evidence comes when you get your ass out of the house, and in turn, find joy interacting with the world around you. You’re showing that big, beautiful world that you are not the self-loathing, sweatpants-wearing, lazy ass who has left a permanent dent in one of the couch cushions. You are by all means a part of something much bigger.

So get up, and stop being that self-loathing couch denter and do your community–as well as yourself–some good and shop local. In fact, walk into that local store proudly, with a smile on your face. It’s important to realize, you, my friend, are making a difference.
